Rodney sets the iced drink in front of Sam like an offering, setting it down and then taking a formal step back from her desk.

Which, he pauses to consider, it is.

Carter just arches an eyebrow, her expression bland for him. “And this?”

“It’s, uh. Well. It’s an apology.” Rodney rocks back on his heels while his hands fidget through the air. Things like iced coffee drinks are a rare delicacy here in the Pegasus Galaxy and McKay had to pull no small amount of strings to make it happen. But he knows her fondness for them, so….

Carter just tilts her chin, looking between the drink and McKay. “For?” Because she isn’t about to make this easy on him, but already her fingers are itching to take the straw between them and luxuriate in a cool sip.

“For this morning,” he says with a measure of contrition. “The staff meeting. Where I might have, sort of, blown up for no good reason.” He bites at the inside of his lip, looking sideways at her desk top. Certainly not into the clear blue eyes that are searching him.

Sam stands, leaving the drink aside, and comes right up to him. He still can’t look at her, so he misses when her hands reach out and dig into his shirt, hauling him against her. He makes an inarticulate noise out of surprise, which Carter swallows in a kiss.

It’s rough and demanding, Sam’s mouth crushing against his. His hands reach out and grab her on the shoulders, too shocked to do much else except hold on.

Fleetingly Rodney thinks of the glass wall behind them, and how anyone — anyone! — looking in could easily see Rodney totally making out with Colonel Samantha Carter, but then Sam’s tongue is swiping against his bottom lip and he’s lost to it. His hands slide from her shoulders, one hand whispering behind to the small of her back, the other arm encircling her.

Sam pulls away suddenly, shaking Rodney just the slightest for emphasis. “And if you ever question my authority again–”

But Rodney doesn’t give her the opportunity to finish that statement. Instead he takes a play from Cadman’s book and tips Sam over, cradling her in his arms while he gives her a more through kissing.
