Challenge 003 :: Family

Daniel Jackson has certainly had the short end of the stick when it comes to familial relations: violently orphaned, abandoned by his grandfather, dumped by girlfriends, widowed by the Goa’uld - he’s had one lonely path to walk.

But maybe there’s something to be said for having the chance to pick your family. SG-1 cares “a lot more then they should” about one another. But like family? And, who’s to say in a universe of infinite realities, there isn’t a Daniel Jackson who’s had it all from the start. Or maybe he has it here, and we just don’t know it.

Run up and down the timeline or jump that rail completely and grab onto the Quantum Mirror Express. Fix what was broken or rub lemon into the wound for that extra whumpy goodness!

Against him, Sha’re made an agitated snuffle into the crook of his neck. It had been this way the first two times, too: being pregnant exhausted his wife while the babies themselves were spry and active, especially in the last trimester as she was now.

Technically, she slept through a great deal of their nocturnal aerobics, but it didn’t make for a particularly restful sleep for her. And then it just became a cycle of not enough sleep and a flagging enthusiasm for anything that wasn’t an afternoon nap. But he didn’t mind. It gave him an excuse to cosset the woman who refused to be cosseted any other time.

Easing his hand around, Daniel spread his palm and fingers wide against his unborn child’s antics. Three children, three daughters, in as many years. He and Sha’re were teased mercilessly for it, his father and brother in law making horrendously off-color jokes about his, uh– “endowment” to warrant such fertility. More often then not in public. Loudly.

But Daniel knew better. It had very little to do with him, it was all Sha’re. She was destined to be a mother, martial a family, and he was just grateful she let it be with him. The raw intensity of that fact often humbled Daniel beyond expression. Softly he kissed her forehead, letting his lips rest against her gently.

His hand began to move in caressing circles, that surge of pride welling up inside of him again. Look at this, it whispered against his ear. Daniel had done this. It wasn’t like he’d done it alone, obviously, but he was proud of his… accomplishments just the same. It made him smile fondly in the darkness. As if in answer, Daniel’s child kicked against his palm.

Again Sha’re sighed against him, rolling over onto and then arching her back. “Here,” he whispered against her temple. “Sit up, let me….” Already his hand was sliding around her. Obligingly, she did as told and Daniel sat up behind her, cradling her between his knees. Strong hands sought out the tension he knew built between her shoulder blades and ran down the length of her spine.

Sha’re sighed a third time, but now in relief, her head tilting back to rest against her husband’s shoulder. And that made Daniel smile too.
